The Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments (ANHE) and Bluebird Cultural Initiative presents a powerful two-part webinar series centered on Indigenous leadership, environmental justice, and the role of nurses in advancing health equity. Through community-led storytelling, participants will explore how historical and ongoing environmental injustice impacts Indigenous health—and how nurses can meaningfully support Indigenous communities in their own practice.

This session focuses on strengthening interprofessional collaboration to address the health impacts of climate change through coordinated, evidence-based, and equity-centered approaches. Learners will explore opportunities within their areas of expertise to engage in interprofessional teamwork, enhance communication and decision-making across disciplines, and demonstrate inclusive leadership in complex healthcare environments. Emphasis will be placed on developing comprehensive, team-based strategies that integrate diverse perspectives, respond to the needs of vulnerable populations, and engage community stakeholders to promote sustainable and just health outcomes in a changing climate.

In 2019, the Alliance of Nurses for Healthy Environments launched the first-of-its-kind Environmental Health Nurse Fellowship program. Funded by the Kresge Foundation, the program focused on environmental health equity and justice, specifically addressing the disproportionate impact of environmental exposures on vulnerable groups. Paired with expert environmental health nurse mentors, throughout the year the fellows not only worked on community projects, they also worked on educating health professionals and colleagues in their communities about environmental health in order to expand knowledge and engagement of health professionals on critical environmental health issues. This webinar showcases the experiences of the ANHE Environmental Health Nurse Fellows in cohort 2 and the impacts of their work.
