Section outline

  • The second installment of our Nurses Drawdown series focuses on the intersection of mobility and public health. Existing transportation systems are insufficient to meet societal needs and standards of public health. As an alternative, an increase in bike transportation is promising; they produce less air pollution and noise pollution, and encourage healthy levels of exercise. To achieve this ideal, public transportation infrastructure can be updated to be more pedestrian- and bike- friendly. In this seminar, our first guest Anna Fuhrmann shares her personal experiences and elaborates on the session's topic. Our second guest, Courtney Schultz, provides a detailed breakdown of the benefits of sustainable transportation. Our third guest, Ignacia Gonzalez, explains the application of these measures, using Clinic Alemana as a case study.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. Described the impacts of transportation on climate change.
    2. Describe the benefits of active transportation with relevant examples/practices around the world.
    3. Describe 2 ways in which nurses can take sustainable mobility actions in their practice.
